We’ve been hearing some incredible stories here at Unity23, and we wanted to share a few to show you how understanding your body composition can make a real difference.
Story 1: “I Thought I Was Just ‘Heavy’”
We recently had someone come in who was convinced they were “just fat.” They’d been on various diets and were fixated on the number on the scale. But when they got their body composition results from our InBody scanner, we were amazed! They had a significant amount of muscle mass. Yes, there was some extra fat, but they were carrying far more muscle than they realized.
This highlights a common issue: focusing only on weight can be misleading. We helped them understand that their body composition i.e. building muscle and managing fat, is key to long-term health, not just a number on the scale. Their motivation skyrocketed, and they’re now focusing on sustainable habits, which is fantastic to see.
Story 2: “I’m Eating Well and Exercising, But…”
We also had a lady in her 50s come to us, frustrated that she wasn’t seeing results despite a healthy diet and regular gym classes. She was doing everything “right,” but her body composition scan revealed something surprising: her muscle mass was low.
Our head coach, McCartney, explained that while her diet was great, she needed to incorporate strength training to build muscle, especially important for women her age. As you know, when women go through menopause, their bodies change in lots of ways, and sometimes it can make bones weaker.
Think of your bones like building blocks. When you lift weights or do exercises that make your muscles work hard, it helps keep those building blocks strong! This is super important because as we get older, especially after menopause, we want to make sure our bones stay tough so we can keep doing all the fun things we love.
McCartney also explained that building muscle helps your body burn more energy, even when you’re just chilling! This can help with things like keeping a healthy weight and feeling more energetic. Plus, strength training can help with balance and coordination, which is really important for staying active and preventing falls.
We recommended our SGPT sessions, which focus on lifting weights and other exercises that help build muscle. We suggested she add in one to two SWEAT23 sessions per week, in addition to her strength training. SWEAT23 is a great way to add in cardio, and to keep that heart healthy. This mix is like giving your body the best of both worlds – strong muscles and a healthy heart! This change is vital for body composition, bone health and overall strength, especially as we age.
Why Does Body composition matter to You?
These stories aren’t unique. Many of us across Bromley are facing similar challenges. We juggle busy lives, and it’s easy to get caught up in misleading metrics like weight alone. Understanding your body composition can help you make informed decisions about your fitness journey.
Even Coaches Need Data
Our own coaches use the InBody scanner regularly. It’s not about ego; it’s about accountability. We believe in practicing what we preach. We track our progress, adjust our routines, and stay on top of our health. Maintenance is key, especially as we get older.
Maintaining Health
It’s easy to fall back into old habits, but staying consistent is crucial. The InBody scanner helps us identify areas for improvement and maintain our health. We focus on building and maintaining muscle mass, which is vital for long-term health and mobility.

We’re all on this journey together, at different stages. Personal adaptation is key to success.
